AbstractMagnetic and magneto-optical properties of TbFeCo/Pd multilayers depend sensitively on the layer structure. Enhancements of the coercivity, Hc, were found for thin Pd layers and the corresponding Barkhausen volume, VB, was found to have a minimum value at maximum coercivity. The saturation magnetization increase with increasing Pd layers thickness. Magneto-optical hysteresis loops detected a shift in the polarity at thin Pd layer thickness. This indicates that Pd act as TM in the multilayer structure. The polarization is believed to be present up to a distance of about 10 Å in the Pd layer. The perpendicular magnetic anisotropy was found to increase with increasing Pd layer thickness. Pd layers was found to contribute to the magneto-optical Kerr spectra. The recording performances of the TbFeCo/Pd multilayer structure were also examined.
